Overview

I designed a SaaS marketplace feature that helped healthcare facilities fill critical shifts with qualified temporary agency staff. As the sole designer, I streamlined the fulfillment process, increasing filled shifts by 6.5% in 3 months—from research through high-fidelity design.

Problem

The marketplace relies on agency staff to pick up shifts through a mobile app, but busy healthcare workers often struggle to keep their schedules full. How might we enable staffing agencies to more easily match and assign shifts to their staff?

Research & Process

I conducted interviews with agency owners and administrators to understand more about their teams and their workflow around filling schedules. From there, I used the following process to deliver the final solution.

Solution - Let the agency do their work

Agency managers can browse shifts by area and directly assign them to staff, who receive instant notifications and see the shift added to their calendars—keeping their schedules full while they focus on giving care.

Results & Learnings

The feature increased agency shift fulfillment by 6.5% in 3 months and received a 5/5 average score in an in-app survey measuring ease of use. We also identified a hypothesis that manager-assigned shifts may influence cancellation rates, which will be monitored for further analysis.
