Overview

I worked with the founders and engineers of an early-stage startup to design the MVP for a new sports betting platform. The product’s value lay in offering flexible, custom bets while remaining accessible to beginners. From user research to high-fidelity designs, I shaped the bettor experience end-to-end to prepare the product for launch.

Problem

Most sports betting apps overwhelm beginners with jargon and rigid options, while offering little flexibility for experienced users who want more unique options. How might we design an experience that makes betting approachable for newcomers while still offering customization for seasoned bettors?

Research & Process

I conducted user interviews and market research to uncover opportunities and user preferences, alongside competitive analysis of leading sports betting platforms to identify common patterns. I mapped the app structure and user flows for placing and managing bets, then iterated on wireframes through guerrilla testing. The process culminated in high-fidelity responsive designs and interactive prototypes.

Solution - Simple, flexible, fun bets.

Users can bet on or create custom two-option bets that can be about anything from game outcomes to the hairstyle of a specific player.

Results & Learnings

User feedback from both sports bettors and casual viewers confirmed the interface was clear and intuitive, with bets easy to browse and place quickly. An opportunity was identified to introduce personalized bet suggestions, which could further strengthen the platform’s value proposition.
